Terms and Conditions

1. The work will be carried out during our normal working hours unless otherwise stated.
2. Every care will be taken during this work, but the offer does not include:
(i) renewing flooring or other joinery work not specified.
(ii) Incidental redecoration necessary following the proper execution of the work.
3. The work will be carried out as quickly as possible in accordance with the specification which may be amended only upon written instruction prior to commencement of work, when the quotation will be adjusted accordingly.
4. Where work requires passing through an outside wall SGC Plumbing will use all reasonable endeavours to ensure that when filling the hole, this matches the existing wall finish, but exact matching cannot be guaranteed.
5. It will be the customer’s responsibility to ensure that the general area around the area concerned with the agreed work is free of obstruction and properly swept or cleaned before any work commences. Any delays directly attributable to this clause may be a chargeable event at SGC Plumbing standards hourly rates.
7. The lifting of floor covering, including carpets and lino tiles etc… may be necessary and the customer will accept that damage may occur in lifting and relaying flooring for which SGC Plumbing cannot accept responsibility.
8. The piping will be in approved tube, jointed and supported in accordance with SGC Plumbing’s Company Standards. Water piping installed below ground floor or in roof spaces will be insulated where accessible. Piping will be concealed as far as possible but this will be at the discretion of SGC Plumbing.
9. All joints will be soldered where SGC Plumbing deem safe to do so. Compression fittings or John Guest fittings will be used in all other cases. Copper tube will be used unless it is impractical in which case John Guest pipe will be used.
10. SGC Plumbing will remove all waste and unused materials. Redundant appliances remain the customer’s responsibility. SGC Plumbing can arrange disposal of these items on request, for which an additional charge may be made.
11. Workmanship is covered by a 24 month warranty for domestic work, and 12 months for all other work unless advised otherwise. Materials etc… will all be covered under the manufacturers warranty from the date of fitting.
12. SGC Plumbing cannot be held responsible for strikes, lock-outs, industrial action, acts of God or other events which prevent the execution of the work. Where the date &/or time for works to be carried out is agreed by SGC Plumbing with the Customer, then SGC Plumbing shall use its best endeavours to ensure attendance on the date & at the time agreed. However, SGC Plumbing accepts no liability in respect of the non attendance or late attendance on site of the operative/engineer or for the late or non delivery of materials.
13. SGC Plumbing cannot accept liability for damage to tiled or other surrounds which are removed as part of the work.
14. Where a written estimate has been supplied to the Customer the total charge to the Customer referred to in the estimate should not exceed the actual cost by more than 10% but may be revised in the following circumstances:—
(i) if after submission of the estimate the Customer instructs SGC Plumbing (whether orally or in writing) to carry out additional works not referred to in the estimate.
(ii) if after submission of the estimate there is an increase in the price of materials.
(iii) if after submission of the estimate it is discovered that further works need to be carried out which were not anticipated when the estimate was prepared.
(iv) if after submission of the estimate it is discovered that there was a manifest error when the estimate was prepared.
15. SGC Plumbing shall not be under any obligation to provide an estimate to the Customer & shall only be bound by estimates given in writing to the Customer & signed by a duly authorised representative of SGC Plumbing. SGC Plumbing shall not be bound by any estimates given orally or in which manifest errors occur.
16. The customer will have 7 days from the date of any quotation within which to accept. The price quoted will be held for a period of 14 days from the date of acceptance to allow for the completion of the work. Should the customer need to extend this period then it may be necessary to re-quote for the work.
17. Any accepted quote which requires in excess of £100 of materials/appliances requires a 50% deposit of the value of the materials/appliances by cash or cheque payable prior to the commencement of works. This is non-refundable if the customer subsequently cancels the order. .
18. Payment terms are strictly cash or cheque on the final day of work unless you have negotiated separate terms which must be confirmed in writing by SGC Plumbing. SGC Plumbing does not accept payment directly from insurance companies. Title to any goods, supplied by SGC Plumbing to the Customer shall not pass to the Customer but shall be retained by SGC Plumbing until payment in full for such goods has been made by the Customer to SGC Plumbing.
19. Any outstanding payments will be subject to administrative costs of £45 plus VAT for the initial debt collection letters, a further £45 plus VAT for the second letter. Interest will be charged at 7% above the B of E base rate, calculated daily on the whole debt, including administrative fees and interest. Debts will be considered either for legal action or debt collection.
20. Any unsatisfactory workmanship notified and agreed in writing within 7 days of initial completion will be rectified free of charge. The customer shall afford SGC Plumbing, and its insurers the opportunity of both inspecting such works and carrying out any necessary remedial works if appropriate. The Customer accepts that if they fail to notify SGC Plumbing then SGC Plumbing shall not be liable in respect of any defects in the works carried out. Defective workmanship will not be a defence against non-payment of bills unless you have notified SGC Plumbing in writing.
21. Any delays directly attributable to other trades on-site that were not highlighted at the time of quoting may result in an increased number of billing hours over and above that quoted. This will always be discussed with the client ahead of any charge becoming applicable.
22. Any parts supplied by the customer that are not to the required specifications for the work may result in further charges at our standard hourly rate for sourcing the correct parts.
23. No liability is accepted for any issues that arise from damage to persons or property as a result of any un-authorised contact with SGC Plumbing tools and equipment. Please ensure anyone at the property is advised of the presence of a plumber and associated tools etc…
24. When repairing, or adding to existing plumbing/central heating systems SGC Plumbing will use reasonable endeavours to visually inspect the system for soundness. This only applies to portions of the system that are readily visible and the customer accepts that certain aspects of the system are impossible to check without further work and if issues arise SGC Plumbing cannot accept responsibility for.
25. Power flushing is a robust process that may highlight pre-existing weaknesses in a plumbing system. SGC Plumbing cannot accept responsibility for any damage arising from such weaknesses.
26. In the course of the execution of works issues may arise for which SGC Plumbing have no legal jurisdiction to rectify
i.e. Discovery of asbestos in flues, building voids etc…
In such situations the customer will be informed as soon as practically possible of the option available to them in order for the contracted work to be completed. SGC Plumbing can accept no responsibility for rectification of such issues.
